From the Dean

Happy Thanksgiving!   Best wishes to each of you for a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with family and friends.

I received a thank you email from Dr. Christiansen earlier this week.  I’ll include the text of it later in this newsletter.   Thanks again for all the work you did in making the November 1 recital a success.   Many of you worked behind the scenes to broadcast an invitation to the event as widely as possible and to encourage people to attend.  This was an example of great teamwork.

Best regards,

Chris Richter

Next Chapter Meeting – Last meeting for 2014

Based on the input received thus far, let’s plan to meet Sunday evening, November 30, beginning at 6:30 pm.   The Richter home is the venue.   If you wish, you can bring a beverage or a snack to share.   We can begin the Advent / Christmas seasons cycle with a toast!

A note from Dr. Christiansen

Dear Chris,

Many thanks to you and the other wonderful members of the Beaumont Chapter of the AGO for sponsoring my recital at Wesley United Methodist Church last November 1.  I had a wonderful time and you were such a kind and polished host.  It was a joy to play in that fine venue and for such wonderful and responsive people and Justin certainly took good care of me and proved to be a first-rate chauffeur!

May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Warmest regards,

Clay

We have a web site!

Yes, it’s true.   We’ve a fledgling website set up on the AGO National Headquarters web frame.   With help from the IT staff in the national office, I set up the rudimentary portions of the web.   It would be great to have a chapter member volunteer to maintain it!    Do we have any volunteers?    It’s not a tough task; it simply requires some diligence.

Instruments Available

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Beaumont, TX is seeking a buyer(s) for its musical instruments.   These include the 1964 Hofmann Tracker pipe organ, a (1990?) Baldwin piano, and a 1963 Zuckerman single manual (spinet) harpsichord.

Additional information regarding the specification, condition, etc. of each instrument is available by contacting Chris Richter (williamcr1@sbcglobal.net).   If you know of anyone interested in these instruments, please share this information.   We’d really like to see the instruments move to a good home and be appreciated.

More news about the Morton Theatre Organ

I exchanged email with Emily Wheeler earlier this week and we’re working to schedule an appointment for me to take a look at the instrument, play it and discuss our involvement with and our access to the organ.   As soon as we can settle on a date, I’ll share updates with you.
