2008 AGO Distinguished Composer Award recipient Stephen Paulus posthumously won the 2016 GRAMMY® Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition for his work Far In The Heavens performed by True Concord Voices and Orchestra, led by Eric Holtan, on Reference Recordings. The work, commissioned and written for the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, was accepted by Paulus’s wife Patty and his two sons, Greg and Andrew.
Paulus’s Three Places of Enlightenment / Veil of Tears / Grand Concerto on the Naxos American Classics label garnered a Best Classical Compendium GRAMMY® Award for Nashville Symphony conductor Giancarlo Guerrero and producer Tim Handley. Organist and AGO member Nathan Laube is featured. The Nashville Symphony Orchestra performed Grand Concerto at the AGO 2012 convention in Nashville with Guerrero conducting and Laube on the organ.
Paulus, who was awarded multiple commissions from the AGO, passed away in 2014
