Certification

TOP 10 THINGS I LEARNED/GAINED FROM PREPARING FOR AND TAKING THE TEST FOR THE AGO SERVICE PLAYING CERTIFICATE – BY LAURA WATSON
1. These things take time –don’t to give up on yourself
2. Even you can transpose
3. Techniques for varying hymns
4. Skills for better hymn leading
5. Increased facility with manual and piston changes (especially via study of anthems)
6. Improved understanding of what to look for when planning registrations for anthem accompaniment
7. A patient and creative teacher is very helpful–thank you Greg Gyllsdorff!
8. Being intentional about sight reading preparation vastly excels the “dive in and hope for miracles” strategy
9. Having a church partner to give you some extra practice time in the last month before the exam is invaluable–thank you Steve McMillen!
10. AGO certification process is very useful for helping an aspiring organist envision and tackle the steps that will get her to the next leg of the musical journey.

If you are interested in studying for one of the Guild exams, please contact Gregory Gyllsdorff at ggyllsdorff@hotmail.com or at 815-621-2709.

I find value in my AGO membership because of the educational resources available and the opportunities to participate in community service. The AGO challenges me to learn more, expand my network, and get involved!
