Message from the Dean

Dean’s Column

“Spring” 2019

Greetings Everyone:
My “spring” column is ever hopeful that this beautiful season is just around the corner.

I trust that everyone is doing well and keeping busy as Lent begins this Wednesday (I’m writing this on March 4). Being retired from the regular cycle of the church year, I empathize with each one of you who is still serving regularly and faithfully in your respective positions.

Recent news is that the Nominating Committee has nominated me to serve another 1-year term as Dean. The mechanics of the nomination have been outlined in my March 2, 2019, email to the membership.  Thanks to this year’s Nominating Committee:  David Hammond, Chair; Carl Angelo; and Greg Largent.

Please allow time for an occasional A.G.O. event. The following list of events is a reminder of what I’ve already sent to the membership via email and what represents the remaining events of our program year.

March 17, 2019, Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  Meeting with the Temple Theater Organ Club in Saginaw.  A chance to hear the organ there and to “give it a go” yourself.  Bring your music and shoes!
Dinner Dutch treat following at Panda House, Saginaw. RSVP’s to James Gladstone.

Phone:  317.847.4785.

March 29, 2019, Friday at 5:00 p.m. Kent Dennis Scholarship Competition, Memorial Presbyterian Church, Midland. Open to the public.

May 24, 2019, Friday at 7:30 p.m. Organ Recital by Michael Plagerman, Cornell University Doctoral Student. First Presbyterian Church, Saginaw.

Highlight of the program will be the world premiere of Collin Whitfield’s setting of “The Church Organist,” based on the poetry of Saginaw legend Margaret Curry Rorke. Scored for soprano and organ, it will feature Erin Whitfield, soprano, and Michael Plagerman, organ.
Reception to follow.

As always, the Executive Committee welcomes program ideas from the membership. Please contact any of us with your ideas.

See you soon and be well!
