My Grandmother was a member up until her passing in 1983. Her name was Elsie Jane (Mitchell) Sutton. Originally from Indianapolis, IN, then settled in Florida. I am trying to put together a musical history of her accomplishments and experience in b AGO. My great-granddaughter is following in her footsteps only with the piano. Where can I find the treasures I’m looking for?

      Joan,

Unfortunately we don’t have any member history before 1998 in membership records (digital or otherwise). The most likely source of any information would be the local chapter(s) in which she was involved. If the chapter was large and kept archives of chapter activities, there may be something about your grandmother. But we have no way of knowing which chapter or chapters she might have been a member in. On the AGO website you can see a list of chapters in Florida: https://wp.agohq.org/chapter-websites/. You could reach out to the various chapter deans in Florida and ask them. Also, local libraries may have copies of The American Organist magazine and there could be a mention of her there. I don’t know if the libraries archives would go back to the 1980’s. I wish I could be of more assistance. Good luck in your search! Bill Valentine
