- Is a program designed for participants who are interested in learning the art and craft of organ building.
- Is for participants aged 16-23, who are not required to have studied the organ. Participants may possess or be seeking expertise in woodworking, electrical skills and construction. Anticipated or current collegiate study may be in the areas of liberal arts with emphasis in science and engineering.
- Will include a 4-5 day course in the history, design, construction and maintenance of the pipe organ. Classes will include study of the work of various builders, pipe building and voicing, tonal design and visits to builders’ shops. Opportunities to play and explore a variety of instruments and attend pipe organ concerts are also offered.
There is no Pipe Organ Encounter-Technical offered in 2024. Please view the information below about the 2019 POE-Technical event to learn about what is offered in this program. The AGO hopes to offer a POE-Technical in an upcoming season and information will be listed here as soon as it is available.

2013 POE-Tech participant Susanna Payne-Passmore was the lucky winner of a Portative organ, designed by Bruce Shull, organbuilder at the Fritts Shop, and collectively built from pre-cut parts by the POE-Tech participants.
Pipe Organ Encounters is an educational outreach program of the American Guild of Organists. Major funding for Pipe Organ Encounters is provided by the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America. Additional support is provided by the American Institute of Organbuilders and the Jordan Organ Endowment. POE scholarships are provided by the AGO New Organist Fund.
